Where facts are stranger than fiction...

Welcome to THE GHOST OF BLUE BELL HILL - a new blog exploring the myths, legends and facts surrounding Kent's strangest and possibly most haunted location. It's time to forget locations such as Pluckley in Ashford (where most of the ghost stories were indeed fabricated in the 1950s) and so let us explore this ancient hill, dismissing some of the myths that have been created over the years and hopefully look at the actual history and events recorded.

Having grown up close to Blue Bell Hill it was always a place of intrigue, a location thought to have been a 'window' area for spirits; the most notable of these and the one often spoken about but in accurate fashion being that of a young woman in white; thought to be a phantom bride-to-be said to have died as the result of a terrible car accident which took place in 1965. Indeed, the bride-to-be (who died in hospital) and two of her friends most certainly did perish as the result of that accident on November 19th '65 but judging by actual ghostly encounters reported it is NOT these young ladies said to haunt the hill. This information has been the stuff of media inaccuracy, Chinese whispers and friend-of-a-friend tales which although powerful are extremely unreliable.

Since that awful accident in '65 so much has been written about the so-called 'phantom hitchhiker' on Blue Bell Hill but with many people claiming to have know someone who has seen or picked that forlorn female up during foggy autumnal or winter nights in hazy memory. The facts however are far stranger than any fiction; and there's more to that old hill than meets the eye...

Since the advent of the internet too many inaccurate stories have been published on certain media websites; whilst in other instances poor, disrespectful documentaries and films have also been made to damage the legend. Ghost hunters have flocked to the hill over the years; and numerous books from the '70s onwards have repeated the same old theories and incorrect details to the point that they have almost become fact in some minds.
